For me, Valentine’s Day is all about love, beauty, and passion: the passion of the local pastry shop owner who makes beautiful creations, the beauty of a gorgeous book or a unique bouquet of flowers, and the comfortable love we feel when we cozy up in a blanket on the couch.
This year, I recommend giving your loved one something sweet and beautiful like the this neon pink cashmere throw as perfect for the plane to Paris as the couch on movie night. Or a rose-petal chocolate bar from Ethereal Confections, which were love at first sight for me when I spotted them in a little grocery in Chicago. Or celebrate the day together with the unquestionably beautiful sound of a champagne cork popping — the Veuve Clicquot Rosé is my pick. Perfectly pink and elegantly intense.
I lust after nearly everything at abc carpet & home, but think there is nothing sweeter than this tiny heart plate by Jean Derian just right for resting your rings in at night. (Of course, there is always jewelry. I am so impressed by the organic beauty of Joanne Stone’s rings.)
These heart-shaped whoopie pies I found at Dean & Deluca couldn’t be cuter, but I love the macarons from Ladurée the most. They are so tiny and beautiful, and I love that once they found the perfect recipe they knew it and haven’t changed it a bit since.
And if you go for flowers, look for something as unique as you can find. New Yorkers are lucky to have tthblooms, who I admire from afar through their Instagram. If you can find them, large sprigs of herbs such as rosemary, sage, mint, or lavender all make for gorgeous bouquets, both with and without flowers. Flowers go best with love poems.
May your Valentine’s Day be sweet and beautiful.
